Questions about compressing

The short answers people ask for most.

How do I make a video fit an exact size?

Pick a target — 10, 20, 25 or 50 MB, or type your own — and Papayacut works backwards from your clip's length to choose a bitrate that lands under it. It checks the finished file and re-encodes once if the first attempt overshot.

Will compressing lower the quality?

Some, and the smaller the target the more visible it is. Rather than hand you a blurry 1080p file, Papayacut drops the resolution when the bitrate gets too thin to support it — a sharp 720p beats a smeared 1080p at the same size.

Do my videos get uploaded?

No. Compression runs inside your browser with WebAssembly, so the file never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored or kept after you download.

Is there a file size limit?

No. Because your device does the work rather than a server, there is no upload cap and no queue — large files just take a little longer.

Do I need an account?

No account, no email, no card, and no watermark on the result.
