Discord raised the free upload limit from 10 MB to 20 MB on 13 August 2026, reversing the cut it made in September 2024. Most compressor sites still tell you the old 10 MB figure, so you may be squeezing your video far smaller than you actually need to.
Discord now measures file size before its own compression on mobile, matching how the desktop app already worked. In practice that makes uploads more predictable, but Android users starting from larger source files still hit the ceiling sooner.
WhatsApp caps videos at 16 MB when you send them from the gallery or camera — the normal way — and it re-compresses them on top of that, which is why clips arrive looking soft.
There is a way around the 16 MB cap: attach the video as a document instead of as media. WhatsApp then allows up to 2 GB and skips its own re-compression, so quality survives. The trade-off is that it arrives as a file to download rather than an inline player.
Gmail lets you attach up to 25 MB, but that ceiling applies after encoding — attachments are Base64-encoded in transit, which inflates them by roughly a third. A 24 MB file can still bounce.
Because of encoding overhead, aim for about 18 MB rather than 25 MB if the message absolutely has to arrive. And remember the recipient's limit matters too: sending 24 MB to an Outlook.com address that caps at 20 MB will fail on their end, not yours.
The short answers people ask for most.
WhatsApp, at 16 MB for a video sent as media — though sending it as a document lifts that to 2 GB. Discord free is now 20 MB and Gmail is 25 MB.
Yes. Discord raised the free upload limit from 10 MB to 20 MB on 13 August 2026, undoing the reduction it made in September 2024. Many guides still quote the old 10 MB figure.

No. Compression runs inside your browser with WebAssembly, so the file never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored or kept after you download.
